Awarded to Second Lieutenant Eric Douglas Pickering, Royal Army Service Corps who was born in Doncaster on the 2nd April 1935 and was educated at Doncaster Grammar School. He applied for a place at the Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst in July 1952 and was successful in passing the Regular Commission Board in May 1953. After a period of training with No.1 Training Battalion, Royal Army Service Corps he joined the Alamein Company of the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in September 1953 and was commissioned into the Royal Army Service Corps on 29th July 1955.
After a short spell again with No.1 Training Battalion, in January 1956 he was posted to Taiping in Malaya to join No.2 Supply Depot.
In April 1958 he requested that he be allowed to resign from the Army and this request was granted by the C in C FARELF Command, he returned to the UK and was transferred to the Reserve on 12th September 1958. He finally relinquished his commission on the 28th February 1964.
