An interesting Crimea Medal 1854-1855, 1 Clasp: Sebastopol, officially impressed naming to Captain Henry Alexander, 10th Hussars, later 1st King’s Dragoon Guards who would see service with the 10th Hussars during the Crimean War from 7th July 1855 taking part in the Battle of Tchernaya and at the Siege of Sebastopol, before later transferring to the 1st King’s Dragoon Guards with whom he would take part in the Second China War. He would later travel with the King’s Dragoon Guards to South Africa where he would arrive on 14th April 1879, and command the Regiment for the remainder of the Zulu War.

Henry Alexander was appointed a Cornet on 3rd September 18347 before promotion to Lieutenant on 6th December 1850 and Captain on 1st February 1856. He would take part in the Crimean War with the 10th Hussars, being present from 7th July 1855 and taking part in the Battle of Tchernaya and at the Siege of Sebastopol.
Alexander would later take part in the Second China War as part of the King’s Dragoon Guards where he would be engaged at Sinho and present at the fall of the Taku Forts, as well as in the actions of 18th and 21st September and in the advance on Pekin, and would later be promoted Major on 12th June 1863, before being promoted Brevet Lieutenant Colonel on 22nd September 1873 and Lieutenant Colonel on 9th December 1875.
Finally appointed Colonel on 22nd September 1878 he would go on to command the 1st Dragoon Guards in the Zulu War from 14th April 1879 until the end of the campaign. He would retire from the 1st Dragoon Guards on 9th December 1881 and would be given the honorary rank of Major General on 17th December 1881
