An Indian Mutiny Medal 1857-1858, no clasp, awarded to Captain R.C. Stevenson, 3rd Bengal European Regiment, Honourable East India Company Forces, who having been awarded the rank of Brevet Captain in March 1853, with the outbreak of the Indian Mutiny, served with the column under Brigadier Showers, and was present at the action at Dowsa on the 14th January 1859 against a body of rebels headed by Tantia Topee. In 1860 he was acquitted for a second time of the charge of embezzling his company’s funds, though a brother officer was found guilty.

Robert C. Stevenson was commissioned as an Ensign into the Honourable East India Company Forces on 8th March 1838, and was posted to the 3rd Bengal European Regiment. Promoted to Lieutenant on 12th November 1842, and then awarded the rank of Brevet Captain on 8th March 1853, he was promoted to Captain on 21st March 1854.

With the outbreak of the Indian Mutiny, Stevenson served with the column under Brigadier Showers, and was present at the action at Dowsa on the 14th January 1859 against a body of rebels headed by Tantia Topee.
