India General Service Medal 1895-1902, 1 Clasp: Punjab Frontier 1897-98; (JEMDR: SULTAN AHMAD. 13TH: BL: LCRS:)
Condition: slight edge bruising, and polishing, overall about Very Fine.
Sultan Ahmad entered the Indian Army as a Sowar with the 13th Bengal Lancers on 22nd October 1885, and then took part in the Punjab Frontier operations which lasted from 10th June 1897 to 6th April 1898.
On 9th August 1897 some 150 men of the 13th Bengal Lancers took part in a famous cavalry charge, charging right along the enemy’s front in a double line over 1 ½ miles of nasty stony ground and completely cleared the enemy from the front forcing them to retire into the hills.
Sultan Ahmad was then granted a Viceroy’s Commission as a Jemadar on 6th September 1897, being then promoted to Rissaldar on 16th October 1906. Sultan Ahmad is still shown in the Indian Army List for 1907 but disappears after this, and he would appear to be solely entitled to the medal for operations on the Punjab Frontier during 1897 to 1898.
