An impressive Great War “Old Contemptible’s" group of seven to Drummer, later Company Sergeant-Major, Frederick John Butler, 2nd Battalion, Gordon Highlanders, who served in both the First and Second World Wars with the Gordon Highlanders, and having been awarded the Regular Army Long Service and Good Conduct Medal, went on to receive the Imperial Service Medal.

Condition. The Great War awards somewhat polished with contact wear particularly the 3 and 9 o’clock positions and affecting the naming on the pair as shown above, some adage bruising, generally Very Fine.
Frederick John Butler was born on 20 Aug 1898 and embarked for service in France as a Drummer Boy in the 2nd Battalion, Gordon Highlanders, on 7 October 1914. He latterly served with the 9th Battalion, Gordon Highlanders and was awarded the Regular Army Long Service and Good Conduct Medal on 11 June 1931. He served as a Company Sergeant-Major with the Gordon Highlanders at home during WW2 and later went on the receive the Imperial Service Medal.
