An extremely rare London Pitt Club, gold with enamel official’s badge, circa 1810, to Sir John Edensor Heathcote (1757 -1822) who was a Stoke-on-Trent industrialist and owner of Longton Hall, Staffordshire, which he rebuilt in 1778 and was High Sheriff of Staffordshire in 1784.

Sir John. Edensor Heathcote was born in Longton Hall in 1857, the son of Michael and Rachel Heathcote. In 1770 he married Anne Gresley (1755 - 1797) in Knypersley, Staffordshire, the daughter of Sir Nigel Gresely, 6th Baronet of Drakelow and Elizabeth Wynne. He was knighted in 1784, the year in which he served as High Sheriff of Staffordshire. Heathcote died in 1822, his estate passing to his son, Richard Edensor Heathcote MP.
