An English Channel ‘Action with enemy e-boats’ Distinguished Service Cross, GRI cypher dated 1945 to reverse, privately engraved to Lieutenant Commander A.I. Morgan, Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve who was decorated with the Distinguished Service Cross in the London Gazette of 23rd January 1945 for his service aboard the escort destroyer HMS Stevenstone in action against enemy e-boats, this ship subsequently striking a mine off Ostend on 30th November 1944 which killed 14 crewmen and wounded 18 others. He would also be awarded the Volunteer Reserve Decoration on 30th October 1945 and would retire on 9th January 1945.

Alfred Thoams Morgan was appointed a Sub-Lieutenant on 24th November 1931 and advanced to Lieutenant on 24th November 1934, before being advanced to Lieutenant Commander on 24th November 1942. He would be command the destroyer HMS Richmond from 20th March 1943 until early 1944 during which time, In June 1943, Richmond after repair sailed to Halifax, and took part in convoy operations along the Canadian coast, serving as part of the Royal Canadian Navy from June until December 1943, when to free her crew for more modern escorts, she returned to the United Kingdom and was laid up on the Tyne.
From 31ast January 1944 until 17th April 1944 Morgan commanded HMS Calpe, and then appears to have transferred to HMS Stevenstone, being awarded a Distinguished Service Cross on 23rd January 1945 for his service aboard the ship when in action with enemy e-Boats. Stevenstone would strike a mine off Ostend on 30th November 1944 which killed 14 crewmen and wounded 18 others.
Morgan would subsequently command HMS Southdown from February 1945 until 11th September 1945, the ship being active in the North Sea during this time.
Morgan would later be appointed the Volunteer Reserve Decoration on 30th October 1945 and would retire on 9th January 1949.
