An Egypt Medal 1882-1889, dated reverse, 3 Clasps: Alexandria 11th July 1882, Suakin 1884, El-Teb_Tamaai awarded to Private J. Boardman, Royal Marines who saw service in Egypt during the Egyptian War where he would be present with HMS Hecla where he would be present during the Bombardment of Alexandria on 11th July 1882, he would then see service aboard Hecla during the Suakin operations in the Sudan between 19th February and 26th March 1884, being one of only 34 men from the ship to be present on the operations, and finally being confirmed as present at the actions at El-Teb on 29th February 1884 and at Tamaai on 13th March 1884.

Condition: heavily contacted at 3 o’clock and 9 o’clock affecting the name which is now faint, and with contact wear to the obverse, overall Fine
James Boardman was born on 9th March 1862, and giving his trade as a carter, and joined the Royal Marines on 9th March 1880, and being posted to the Portsmouth Division was posted to HMS Hecla on 26th May 1882 with whom he would take part in the Egyptian War where he would be present during the Bombardment of Alexandria on 11th July 1882, he would then serve aboard her during the Suakin operations in the Sudan between 19th February and 26th March 1884, being one of only 34 men from the ship to be present on the operations, and finally being confirmed as present at the action at El Teb on 29th February 1884, and then in the action at Tamaai on 13th March 1884.
He would return ashore on 8th November 1884, being posted to Vernon on 26th August 1885 and remaining aboard until 29th February 1888. Various appointments aboard Invincible, Alacrity, Impregnable and Tamar would follow until he returned ashore on 23rd May 1891, being discharged on 23rrd November 1892.
