An Army Meritorious Service Medal awarded to Troop Sergeant-Major J. H. Willis, Royal Engineers in recognition of valuable services rendered with the Forces in France during the war. He had earlier survived gas poisoning during the Battle of Loos, in October 1915.

James H. Willis of Chiswick, London, embarked for service in France with the Royal Engineers on 3 Aug 1915. He suffered Gas Poisoning on 18 Oct 1915 from which he recovered and was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal recognition of valuable services rendered with the Forces in France in June 1918.
