Henry Youds was born in Seacombe, Birkenhead and attested at Liverpool on 20th October 1877 seeing service with the 2nd/8th (The King’s) Regiment of Foot who would see service in Afghanistan during the Second Afghanistan War between 5th February 1880 and 20th October 1880, he would subsequently serve in India from 21st October 1880 until 2nd November 1885, when he would travel to Burma and take part in the Third Burma War until 3rd April 1887, returning to India, thereafter, he travelled back to the UK on 26th January 1888 and was discharged on 22nd October 1889.
He was twice imprisoned for being absent before travelling to Afghanistan.
Additionally entitled to an India General Service Medal 1854-1895, clasp Burma 1885-7.
