Rudyard Morgan saw service as a Corporal (No. 23082) with the 9th Field Company and later 495th Kent Field Company, Royal Engineers on the Western Front from 23rd August 1914. He would go on to receive the Military Medal in the London Gazette of 27th June 1918 which notes Morgan as from St. John’s Wood.
When theTerritorial Forcewas created in 1908, the1st Sussex Royal Engineers (Volunteers)were split up to provide the Kent andSussexFortress Engineers, as well as the field companies of theHome Counties Division. TheKent Fortress Royal Engineerswas formed on the basis of K Company of the 1st Sussex atTonbridge, Kent.
