A good die-stamped white metal example. Crowned Maltese cross bearing title circlet; Royal Arms, two wildebeests and scroll ‘DEFENCE’ to voided centre. Two of three loops to reverse.
Originally raised in 1861 as Pietermaritzburg Volunteer Rifle Corps; redesignated Maritzburg Rifles in 1868, Natal Royal Rifles in 1889 and Natal Royal Regiment in 1910; disbanded 1913.
