A unusual Delhi Durbar 1911 and Army Long Service and Good Conduct Medal pair awarded to Farrier Staff Serjeant H.W. Watson, C Battery, Royal Horse Artillery who having been awarded the Army Long Service and Good Conduct Medal in Army Orders of October 1909 was one of 166 members of the Royal Horse Artillery to be present at the 1911 Delhi Durbar. He would later serve on the Western Front during the Great War and was severely wounded on 11th April 1917, dying of wounds the next day and being buried in Duisans British Cemetery, Etrun.

Horace William Watson was born in Canterbury and would be awarded his Army Long Service and Good Conduct Medal in Army Orders of 1909 whilst serving as a Farrier Staff Serjeant, he was subsequently one of 166 members of the Royal Horse Artillery to be awarded the Delhi Durbar Medal 1911, this whilst serving as a Farrier Quarter Master Sergeant.
Watson would see service with C Battery, Royal Horse Artillery during the Great War, arriving on the Western Front on 5th October 1914. He would be seriously wounded during the fighting near Arras on 11th April 1917 and died of his wounds the next day 12th April 1917 being buried in Duisans British Cemetery, Etrun.
He was noted as the son of John and Ann Watson; husband of R. Watson of 15 Church Street, Swanmore, Ryde, Isle of Wight. He is noted by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission as having seen 26 years service, 20 of which was in India.
