A Turkish Crimea Medal to 1171 Thomas Lawry, 6th Dragoons, who active and present with his regiment at the time, so probably rode in the Charge of The Heavy Brigade, at Balaklava, on 25th October 1854.
Turkish Crimea Medal, Sardinian issue, fitted with a chromed medal loop and swivel ring suspension (No 1171 THOs LAWRY 6th DRAGOONS) contemporary (depot?) engraved naming.
Condition. The naming a little weak at the 3 and 9 o’clock positions due to contact wear.
It is interesting to note that Lawry/Lawrey’s Crimea medal with clasps for Balaklava, Inkermann and Sebastopol was sold by Spink in July 2005 and was named in an identical fashion to this medal, with the exception that it was depot impressed rather than engraved. It too has some loss of detail at the 9 o’clock position due to contact wear.
Lawry was shown as active on the musters from 1 Oct to 31 Dec 1854 so probably rode in the charge. He transferred to the 7th Dragoon Guards on 14 Sept 1857.
