A Second World War and later Malayan Emergency group awarded to Lieutenant Colonel G.W. Barnett, Royal Army Ordnance Corps who served in Malaya during the Emergency, and held several Command roles in relation to Ordnance. He was the Officer in Command of the Guard Party at the time of Field Marshall Slim’s visit to Chilwell.

G.W. Barnett saw service as a Lieutenant Colonel with the Royal Army Ordnance Corps in Malaya during the Malayan Emergency, he had earlier seen service during the Second World War.
In 1949 he was appointed Major, Second in Command of the Ordnance Service of BETFOR (Austria), in 1954 he was serving as Major HQ Ammunition Organisation.
February 1955 appointed Major, DADOS, leaving Britcom Forward Maintenance Company, Korea before in February 1960 as a Lieutenant Colonel he arrived a the Ordnance Directorate General Headquaters FARELF Singapore, he was also serving as the Chairman of the Royal Army Ordnance Corps Association Singapore at this time.
In 1962 he was posted to the Central Ordnance Depot at Chilwell where he was present as the Officer Commanding the Guard Party for the visit of Field Marshall Slim (a photo of which appears in the Royal Army Ordnance Corps Gazette), and in 1968 to the Central Ammunition Depot at Kineton.
