A reconquest of the Sudan capture of Khartoum and Boer War Cape Colony, Orange Free State and Transvaal operations group awarded to Private J. Kelly, Northumberland Fusiliers who would present during the reconquest of the Sudan where he took part in the capture of Khartoum before later being present in South Africa during the Boer War where he would be present on the operations in Cape Colony, Orange Free State and Transvaal.

John Kelly was born in Chelsea in 1876, trade a labourer. Served in the 3rd Battalion, Middlesex Regiment before enlisting for limited engagement of 7 years in the colours and 5 years in the reserve on 28th December 1894., he would first serve service in during the reconquest of the Sudan where he took part in the capture of Khartoum before being present during the occupation of Crete from 3rd October 1898 to 19th April 1899. He would then see service in South Africa during the Boer War where he would be present on operations in Cape Colony, Orange Free State and Transvaal.
Permitted to extend his service to complete 12 years with the colours on 4th November 1902 and appointed a Corporal on 1st January 1903, reverting back to Private on 13th February 1903 at his own request.
He would be transferred to the Reserve on the termination of the first period of engagement on 25th August 1903, and was discharged on 27th December 1906.
