Citation
In the performance of her assigned duties and Civilian Driver employed with the U.S. Army Port Headquarters at Glasgow during the period March 1943 to July 1945 inclusive, Miss VIOLET TAYLOR has rendered outstanding service, at all times maintaining a superior standard of efficiency, diligence and cooperation.

During WW2, Glasgow and the River Clyde served as a major port of entry for US Army personnel and supplies, with several US Army Port Battalions and specialised unitoperating in the area to manage the influx of troops and cargo.
7th Port (APO437) is recorded as operating in the Glasgow area.
The Port Commander, Colonel Auston Denison Higgins, was a veteran of the Great War and died in 1954. He is interred in the Arlington National Cemetery.
