A rare Special Reserve Long Service and Good Conduct Medal, GVR, awarded to Corporal H. McCallion, 3rd later 2nd Battalion, Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders who would later serve on the Western Front from 11th November 1914 and would be killed in action on 25th September 1915, the first day of the Battle of Loos and having no known grave is remembered on the Loos Memorial.

Hugh McCallion was born in Dumbarton and would be living there when he enlisted at Barry, Forfars on 6th August 1903 and would be awarded his Special Reserve Long Service and Good Conduct Medal whilst serving with 3rd Battalion, Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders.
He would later serve as a Private (No. 5365) on the Western Front from 11th November 1914 with 2nd Battalion, Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders being later killed in action on 25th September 1915 aged 38 on the first day of the Battle of Loos. Having no known grave he is remembered on the Loos Memorial and is noted as the Son of the late Hugh McCallion; husband of Mary McCulloch (formerly McCallion) of 26 Henry Street, Dumbarton.
