A rare Second World War group of five to Captain Jan “John” Kraus, a Czech doctor who received an emergency commission into the Royal Army Medical Corps from the Czech Artillery in 1943 and later saw service in Northwest Europe, being Mentioned in Despatches in recognition of distinguished services during the liberation of prisoners held in German Concentration Camps.

The recipient’s WW2 French I.D. bracelet “OFFICER JAN KRAUS A1740 30 7 11”
Dr Jan Kraus was born on 30 July 1911 and following the outbreak of WW2 saw service in France before arriving in the UK. He received an Emergency Commission as a Lieutenant in the Royal Army Medical Corps from the Czechoslovak Artillery on 20 March 1943 and was promoted to War Substantive Captain a year later.
He was Mentioned in Despatches (London Gazette 27 October 1945) in recognition of distinguished services during the liberation of prisoners in German Concentration Camps.
