A rare Drummond Castle Medal 1896, awarded on behalf of Queen Victoria by officials from the British Embassy in Paris to inhabitants of Brest, Ushant, and Molene for their generosity and humanity in rescuing and succouring the survivors of the SS Drummond Castle which struck a reef off Ushant on 16th June 1896.

Presented on behalf of Queen Victoria by officials from the British Embassy in Paris to inhabitants of Brest, Ushant, and Molene for their generosity and humanity in rescuing and succouring the survivors of the SS Drummond Castle which struck a reef off Ushant on 16th June 1896. Of the 143 passengers and 104 crew, all but three perished. 282 medals were struck and 271 of there were awarded for those who helped save the living and assisted in the recovery and buried of victims.
