A Queen’s Sudan Medal, 1896, awarded to Private W. Malone, 1st Battalion, Cameron Highlanders who was present on the Nile Expedition of 1898, being present at the Battle of Atbara, 8 April 1898, and the Battle of Khartoum, 2 Sept 1898.

William Malone was born in the parish of Dungannon in County Tyrone and attested for the Cameron Highlanders at Inverness on 22 Nov 1890. He served in Egypt from 4 Oct 1897 til 28 Oct 1898, participating on the Nile Expedition of 1898, being present at the Battle of Atbara, 8 April 1898, and the Battle of Khartoum, 2 Sept 1898.
He is additionally entitled to a Khedive’s Sudan medal with clasps for Atbara and Khartoum. During the Great War he undertook civil employment with Harland and Wolf, and later recalled to the colours from munitions work, serving with the Scottish Rifles. He was demobilised on 26 March 1919.
