L’Estrange, 5th Battalion, Rifle Brigade - the Queen’s Own Tower Hamlet’s Militia, who served in operations in the Cape Colony and the Orange Free State from January to May 1902.

Condition: suspension slightly bent, hence Very Fine.
Thomas Joseph L’Estrange was appointed to a Militia Infantry Commission as a Captain in the 5th Battalion, Rifle Brigade - the Queen’s Own Tower Hamlet’s Militia on 5th December 1901, and on 9th December 1901 was embodied for service in South Africa during the Boer War.
He took part in the operations in the Cape Colony and the Orange Free State from January to May 1902, and on leaving was appointed an Honorary Captain in the Army, and a Captain in the reserve, being then called up for service during the Great War on 2nd October 1914, he was posted to the 11th Service Battalion, Rifle Brigade, serving with them at home in Winchester as part of the 20th Division. Medal and clasp entitlement confirmed.
He would be awarded a Silver War Badge for his efforts during the Great War, this being sent to him at the Junior Naval and Military Club, Piccadilly.
