A Punjab Frontier 1897-98 and later Great War pair awarded to Warrant Officer Class 2 E.J. Bodiam, 1st Battalion, East Kent Regiment – the Buffs who saw service during the operations on the Punjab Frontier which lasted from 10th June 1897 through to 6th April 1898 and then later during the Great War on the Western Front from 1st June 1915 being discharged on 28th September 1915.

Edward John Bodiam was born in Detling, Kent and attested on 29th September 1893 initially seeing service at home until he travelled to India on 2nd December 1894 where he would see service during the operations on the Punjab Frontier which lasted from 10th June 1897 through to 6th April 1898. Appointed Lance Corporal on 24th February 1897 until he was promoted Corporal on 9th February 1899 and appointed an unpaid Lance Sergeant on 1st June 1902, paid Lance Sergeant on 18th March 1903 and Sergeant on 9th June 1903. He would remain in India until 13th October 1903, with a couple of short interludes in Burma. Having left India he travelled to Aden on 14th October 1903 and remained there until 8th December 1903. He subsequently served at home.
Upon the outbreak of the Great War he would be promoted to a Company Serjeant Major and would travel to France on 1st June 1915 remaining there until 23rd September 1915 being discharged on 28th September 1915. He is then noted as rejoining on 1st August 1916 serving at home and being discharged to Class Z Reserve on 28th November 1919.
