A pre-war Palestine, Defence of Malta air raid casualty and later Leros Prisoner of War group awarded to Private C. Castle, 2nd Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment who saw service during the Arab Revolt in Palestine before later seeing Second World War service being wounded in an air raid during the Defence of Malta on 26th February 1941 and was later taken Prisoner of War at the fall of Leros in November 1943.

Private (No. 6342446) C. Castle, Royal West Kent Regiment saw service in Palestine during the Arab Revolt and later in North Africa during the Second World War.
Castle was wounded during an air raid on Malta on 26th February 1941 along with three other members of his battalion and 2 members of the Royal Artillery. He would later be present on the island of Leros at its fall in November 1943 and was taken Prisoner of War.
Only one company of the 2nd Battalion, Queen’s Own Royal West Kent’s were present with the 3000 strong British garrison on Leros.
