James Lyons of 5 Sinclair Mansions, Richmond Road, London, a territorial soldier in the 3rd County of London Yeomanry (Sharpshooters), served in the Boer War as a Sergeant with the Army Post Office Corps. At the time of the 1911 Coronation he was present with the St. John’s Ambulance Brigade. On 22 October 1914, Lyons was commissioned Quartermaster with the Honorary rank of Lieutenant in the 3rd County of London (Sharpshooters) Yeomanry. Then promoted to Captain, he embarked for service in France on 14 Jan 1917, with 58 Division Train, Army Service Corps. His Medal Index Card indicates that he claimed for hisTerritorial Force War Medal on 25 May 1920.
