A Military Medal recipients Western Front casualty Victory Medal awarded to Corporal E. Drew, Machine Gun Corps, formerly of the Gloucestershire Regiment who saw service on the Western Front and who would be killed in action at Poelcappelle on 11th October 1917 and having no known grave is now remembered on the Tyne Cot Memorial. He would subsequently be awarded the Military Medal in the London Gazette of 25th January 1918.

Ernest Drew was born in Haverhill, Suffolk and prior to the war worked as manager of Goodmans Provision Store, 202 and 415 High Street, Cheltenham. He enlisted in Cheltenham in the Gloucestershire Regiment in September 1915 as No. 24504 but was later transferred to the Machine Gun Corps. He was serving with 205 Company and had been awarded the Military Medal for bravery in the field when he was killed at the Battle of Poelcappelle, Ypres Sector on 11th October 1917. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial. He left a widow and a son, Hector, living at the above address.
Drew’s Military Medal was listed in the London Gazette of 25th January 1918.
