A Military Cross recipients Victory Medal awarded to Lieutenant C.O.H. Clarke, 31st Division, Royal field Artillery who would be awarded the Military Cross in the London Gazette of 10th January 1917 for his gallantry when picking up a bomb, the fuse of which was burning, and carrying it to a disused trench where it immediately exploded, he thus saved many lives. He would subsequently be discharged on 8th January 1918.

Charles Osbeck Haywood Clarke saw service as a Second Lieutenant with the 31st Division, Royal Field Artillery in Egypt from 28th December 1915, but is noted as ineligible for 1914-1915 Star. He would subsequently be awarded the Military Cross in the London Gazette of 10th January 1917:
‘For conspicuous gallantry in action. He picked up a bomb, the fuse of which was burning, and carried it to a disused trench, where it immediately exploded, thereby undoubtedly saving many lives.’
Clarke would go on to be discharged on 8th January 1918 receiving Silver War Badge No. 240977. At the start of the Second World War he would serving on Lynton Urban Council before on 27th June 1941 he would be recommissioned as a Second Lieutenant.
He is remembered on the Bishop Veseys Grammar School Memorial un Sutton Coldfield, West Midlands.
