A Great War Royal Red Cross 2nd Class and King’s South Africa Medal pair to Nursing Sister M.A. Franklin, Queen Alexandra’s Imperial Military Nursing Service Reserve who would see service in South Africa during the Boer War before later seeing Great War service. Awarded the Royal Red Cross 2nd Class in the London Gazette of 3rd June 1916 and would be presented her award at Buckingham Palace on 5th February 1917, meeting the Queen at Marlborough House immediately afterwards.

Letter from the War Office dated 30th January 1917 asking Sister Franklin to attend Marlborough House on 5th February 1917 after receiving her Royal Red Cross at Buckingham Palace, it notes her as employed at King George V Hospital, Dublin at that time.
M. Franklin saw service in South Africa during the Boer War as a Civilian Nursing Sister and would later see Great War service as a Sister with the Queen Alexandra’s Imperial Military Nursing Service Reserve, being awarded a Royal Red Cross 2nd Class in the London Gazette of 3rd June 1916.
Franklin would be presented with her award at Buckingham Palace on 5th February 1917, and would subsequently be requested to meet the Queen at Marlborough House at 12pm that day. The request for her attendance was sent to her at King George V Hospital, Dublin, indicating that she was almost certainly working there at that time.
Additionally entitled to at least a Queen’s South Africa Medal without clasp and a British War Medal and Victory Medal from the Great War.
