A Great War Military Medal and Bar group of four to Sergeant George Browne, 7th Battalion, East Kent Regiment who likely received the Military Medal for the fighting at Poelcappelle in October 1917, and the Bar to the Military Medal for the Battle of Amiens in August, 1918 where he is recorded as being wounded.

George Browne attested for the East Kent Regiment on 5 September 1914 and posted to the 7th Battalion. He embarked for France as a Private Soldier on 28 July 1915 and was appointed Lance-Corporal on 14 September 1916. Having attained the rank of Lance-Sergeant he was awarded the Military Medal for his bravery during the Fighting at Poelcapelle in October 1917, and having been advanced to Sergeant on 27 June 1918, was awarded the Bar top the Military Medal for his bravery during the Battle of Amiens in August that year. He was demobilised, Class ‘Z’, on 14 April 1919.
