James Rooney enlisted into the British Army on 6th April 1915, and then saw service during the Great War as a Rifleman (No.S-9428) with the Rifle Brigade, being present out on the Western Front from 6th July 1915. Rooney was discharged due to wounds on 4th July 1916, and then died of his wounds on 8th February 1917. Aged 20 at the time of his death, he was the son of the late Hannah Rooney, and is buried in Nunhead All Saints Cemetery in London.
