A Great War bronze Memorial Plaque and Illuminated Memorial Scroll to Second Lieutenant Charles James Wright, 11th Battalion, South Staffordshire Regiment, attached Machine Gun Corps, who was killed in action during the Battle of The Somme, on 18 October 1916. A schoolmaster at Melton Mowbray Grammar School, he is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.

Charles James Wright was born in Sunderland and was a schoolmaster at Melton’s King Edward VII Grammar School at the time of his enlistment. He was commissioned into the 11th Battalion South Staffordshire Regiment and killed in action on18 October 1915 in the fighting on the Somme while attached to The Machine Gun Corps.
He is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, France, and in the Egerton Lodge War Memorial Garden, Melton Mowbray.
