William Hutton enlisted into the British Army on 21st April 1915, and then saw service during the Great War as a Private (No.21155) with the 12th Service Battalion, Royal Scots, being present out on the Western Front from 11th August 1915. Hutton was discharged due to wounds on 30th June 1919, and awarded the Silver War Badge.
