A good Royal Navy Long Service and Good Conduct Medal, VR, narrow suspender awarded to H.R. Long, Master-At-Arms, H.M.S. Lion who would be awarded his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal on 12th March 1890 whilst serving aboard H.M.S. Lion.

Henry R. Long was born in Marylebone, London on 18th July 1852 and first saw service aboard Aurora on 1st January 1873 as an Ordinary Seaman, being advanced to Able Seaman on 1st December 1873, and then Leading Seaman aboard Urgent on 1st November 1878. His next promotion would be to Ship’s Corporal 2nd Class aboard Bellerophon on 18th August 1879, and then Ship’s Corporal 1st Class on Terror on 1st April 1880. His promotion to Master-At-Arms would come aboard H.M.S. Bruiser in 1886 and his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal would be awarded to him whilst serving aboard H.M.S. Lion on 12th March 1890. He would later be pensioned from Vivid I on 14th April 1898
