A good reconquest of the Sudan and Boer War group awarded to Private C. Preston, 2nd Battalion, Lancashire Fusiliers who would take part in the reconquest of Sudan including at the entry into Khartoum on 2nd September 1898 before later serving in South Africa during the Boer War where he would take part in operations in the Orange Free State and the Transvaal, and the action of the Tugela Heights between 14th and 27th February 1900, in the relief of Ladysmith between 15th December 1899 and 28th February 1900, and at the action at Laing's Nek between 2nd and 9th June 1900.

George Preston was born at St. Pauls, Stockport, Cheshire and attested at Bury on 3rd December 1895 subsequently seeing service as a Private (No. 5360) with 2nd Battalion, Lancashire Fusiliers. He would initially serve at home in the UK before travelling to Egypt on 15th February 1898 where he would take part in the reconquest of Sudan including during the entry into Khartoum on 2nd September 1898. He would then take part in the occupation of Crete being present there between 9th October and 3rd December 1898.
He would then travel to Malta being present there from 4th December 1898 until 14th September 1899, before returning home to the UK, where he would remain until 1st December 1899. He would then travel to South Africa where he would take part in the Boer War, being present on operations in the Orange Free State and the Transvaal, and the action of the Tugela Heights between 14th and 27th February 1900, in the relief of Ladysmith between 15th December 1899 and 28th February 1900, and at the action at Laing's Nek between 2nd and 9th June 1900.
He would leave South Africa on 28th October 1902 returning home to the UK, he would be transferred to the Reserve on 4th December 1902 and would be discharged on 2nd December 1911.
