A good Punjab Frontier operations and Boer War Relief of Kimberely, Paardeberg and Driefontein group awarded to Private E.J. Overton, 1st later 2nd Battalion, East Kent Regiment who saw service in India during the Punjab Frontier operations from 10th June 1897 to 6th April 1898 and then during the Boer War the Relief of Kimberley on 15th February 1900, and in action at Paardeberg on 17th to 26th February 1900, and then at Driefontein on 10th March 1900.

Edward John Overton was born on 11th May 1869 in the parish of St. Peters near Ramsgate. He joined the East Kent Regiment on 24th February 1891. His first overseas service would be in India from March 1892, where he served for five years along with the 1st Battalion, including on the Punjab Frontier operations which lasted from 10th June 1897 to 6th April 1898. He returned to the UK in February 1899.
After almost a year in England he transferred to the 2nd Battalion, East Kent Regiment and travelled to South Africa where he would be present at the Relief of Kimberley on 15th February 1900, and in action at Paardeberg on 17th to 26th February 1900, and then at Driefontein on 10th March 1900.
He would return to the UK on 27th August 1902 and was discharged. He died in Edmonton, Middlesex in September 1947 leaving a wife and three children
