Lowdell, 1st Battalion, later 2nd Battalion, East Kent Regiment – the Buffs who saw service in operations on the Punjab Frontier which lasted from 10th June 1897 to 6th April 1898 before seeing service in South Africa on operations in Transvaal between 15th March and 27th October 1902.

John Thomas Lowdell was born at St. Pauls, Chatham, Kent. Giving his trade as a Labourer he enlisted at Canterbury on 15th February 1895, he initially saw service at home with 2nd Battalion in the UK until 27th October 1897, before he transferred to the 1st Battalion and saw service in India between 28th October 1897 until 14th March 1902 including in the operations on the Punjab Frontier which lasted from 10th June 1897 to 6th April 1898, before reverting back to 2nd Battalion and being posted to South Africa where he saw service from 15th March to 27th October 1902 during the Boer War on operations in Transvaal.
