A good Punjab Frontier and Boer War Transvaal operations pair awarded to Private E. O’Donovan, 1st Battalion, later 2nd Battalion, East Kent Regiment – the Buffs who saw service in operations on the Punjab Frontier which lasted from 10th June 1897 to 6th April 1898 before seeing service in South Africa on operations in Transvaal between 15th March and 8th October 1902.

Edward O’Donovan was born in Cowes, Isle of Wight. Giving his trade as a salesman he enlisted at Canterbury on 30th November 1894, initially serving at home until 25th November 1896, he had been appointed a Lance Corporal 9th September 1895, before returning back to Private on 19th March 1896.
He transferred to the 1st Battalion and served in India from 26th November 1896 until 14th March 1902 including in operations on the Punjab Frontier which lasted from 10th June 1897 to 6th April 1898. He was again appointed Lance Corporal on 11th November 1898 before reverting back to Private for misconduct on 7th January 1900. He was subsequently posted to the 2nd Battalion, East Kent Regiment with whom he saw service in South Africa from 15th March until 8th October 1902 before then serving at home in the UK until his discharge on 29th November 1906.
