A good Crimean War Battle of the Alma, Siege of Sebastopol and Indian Mutiny Relief Lucknow and subsequent operations group awarded to Private W. McFarlane, 93rd (Sutherland Highlanders) Regiment of Foot who saw service during the Crimean War being present in action at the Battle of Alma on 20th September 1854 and during the siege and bombardment of Sebastopol which lasted from 11th September 1854 through to 9th September 1855. He would subsequently be present during the Indian Mutiny where he would be in action during the Relief of Lucknow in November 1857 and the subsequent operations at Lucknow from November 1857 to March 1858.

William McFarlane a labourer attested as a Private in the 93rd (Sutherland Highlanders) Regiment of Foot on 9th October 1852 and would go on to see service during the Crimean War, being present in action at the Battle of Alma on 20th September 1854 and during the siege and bombardment of Sebastopol which lasted from 11th September 1854 through to 9th September 1855. He would then be present during the Indian Mutiny, and in action with Sir Colin Campbell’s force at the relief of Lucknow in November 1857, and the subsequent operations at Lucknow from November 1857 to March 1858. He would transfer to the Army Reserve on 28th June 1859.
