A good Boer War Relief of Kimberley, Paardeberg, Driefontein, Johannesburg, Wittebergen, Diamond Hill and Great War Western Front group awarded to Driver W.C. Hitchins, Royal Horse Artillery who saw service in South Africa during the Boer War where he would be present in the relief of Kimberley and an the actions at Paardeberg, Driefontein, Johannesburg, Diamond Hill and Wittebergen. Later re-enlisting for the Great War he would see service on the Western Front from 15th December 1914. He would survive the war to be discharged.

Condition: QSA - the third and fourth bars held together by thin wire, the rivet on the right hand side of the Wittebergen bar has snapped damaging the ear of the bar, top bar loose on ribbon, otherwise Good Very Fine
William Charles Hitchins was born in Natal, South Africa and initially joined the Gordon Highlanders in South Africa (No. 3893) on 26th May 1891 serving at home until 23rd October 1899, and transferring to the Royal Horse Artillery on 28th April 1892. He would subsequently travel to South Africa and would take part in the Boer War being present in the relief of Kimberley and an the actions at Paardeberg, Driefontein, Johannesburg, Diamond Hill and Wittebergen
Returning home on 4th August 1902, he would be discharged on 19th May 1903 after 12 years service.
He would re-enlist for the Great War on 21st September 1914 and would see service as a Driver (No. 88040) with the Royal Horse Artillery on the Western Fron from 15th December 1914. Surviving the war he would be discharged on 21st February 1919.
