Lofts, 6th Dragoon Guards (Carabiniers), later attached Life Guards who saw service in South Africa during the Boer War on operations in Cape Colony, Orange Free State and Transvaal before later serving on the Western Front from 9th November 1914 being discharged to Class Z reserve on 12th March 1919.

Alfred J. Lofts saw service as a Private (No. 4570) with the 6th Dragoon Guards (Carabiniers) during the Boer War on operations in Cape Colony, Orange Free State and Transvaal.
He would later service in the Great War as a Shoeing Smith and Private (No D-5601) with the 6th Dragoon Guards attached 1st Life Guards and later as a Private (No. D/19958) with the Corps of Dragoons on the Western Front from 9th November 1914 being discharged to Class Z reserve on 12th March 1919.
