A German Spring Offensive Military Medal winner’s casualty 1914-1915 Star awarded to Private, later Corporal W.F. Short, 9th Battalion, Yorkshire Light Infantry who having served on the Western Front from 10th December 1915 would be killed in action on 9th September 1918 being remembered on the Vis-En-Artois Memorial. He would subsequently be awarded the Military Medal in the London Gazette of 7th October 1918 for an act of gallantry during the Spring Offensive whilst he was serving with 6th Battalion, Yorkshire Light Infantry and attached to the 3rd Battalion, London Regiment.

Walter Frederick Short saw service as a Private and later Corporal (No. 18794) with the 9th Battalion, Yorkshire Light Infantry on the Western Front from 10th December 1915. He would later also see service with the 6th Battalion, Yorkshire Light Infantry whilst attached to the 3rd Battalion, London Regiment.
Short was killed in action whilst serving with the 9th Battalion, King’s Own Yorkshire Light infantry on 9th September 1918 and having no known grave he is remembered on the Vis-En-Artois Memorial.
He would be subsequently awarded the Military Medal for actions in France in the London Gazette of 7th October 1918, this mostly likely awarded for the German Spring Offensive earlier in the year.
