Walter Robinson was born in Neepsend, Sheffield, Yorkshire and having enlisted would see service as a Private (No. 13587) with the 9th Battalion, Yorkshire Light Infantry on the Western Front from 11th September 1915.
Robinson would be killed in action on 1st July 1916 – the first day of the Battle of the Somme and having no known grave is remembered on the Thiepval Memorial. 9th Battalion, King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry was involved in an attack to the north of Fricourt on 1st July 1916 and suffered over 500 casualties.
His next of kin is listed as his widow who was living at 3 Bernard Terrace, Denholme Street, Sheffield.
