A fine South Africa Boer War and Great War Western Front group awarded to Major T.G. Pirie, Gordon Highlanders, sometime Imperial Yeomanry, who originally joining the 2nd Battalion, Gordon Highlanders in 1882, served with C Squadron of Paget’s Horse on operations in the Cape Colony and the Transvaal during the Boer War, and then on the Western Front from 19th September 1914.

Condition: slight edge bruise to first at 3 o’clock on reverse rim, overall Good Very Fine.
Tyrell Gordon Pirie was educated at Glen Almond School and then Clifton College, before being commissioned as a Lieutenant into the 2nd Battalion, Gordon Highlanders on 9th September 1882. By the time of the outbreak of the Boer War, Pirie was serving as a Captain with the 19th Battalion, Imperial Yeomanry, known as Paget’s Horse, and then saw service out in South Africa with C Squadron of his unit on operations in the Cape Colony and the Transvaal.
Pirie had retired by the outbreak of the Great War, but was then reemployed as a Captain with the Gordon Highlanders, Territorial Force, and then saw service on the Western Front from 19th September 1914, and was later promoted to Temporary Major, ending the war serving with the Headquarters in France, he was serving on the Staff of the Transport Department. He latterly resided at Medmenham Abbey in Marlow, Buckinghamshire.
