Stephen Donohue saw service as Serjeant with the 1st Dragoon Guards in Crimea during the Crimean War and was present during the siege of Sebastopol which lasted from 11th September 1854 to 9th September 1855 and would later go on to be awarded both the Army Long Service and Good Conduct Medal as a Troop Serjeant Major and an Army Meritorious Service Medal as a Serjeant Major.
