Smith, Women’s Royal Army Corps, late Auxiliary Transport Service, who received the Efficiency Medal in September 1949, was commissioned from Warrant Officer 2nd Class in February 1951, and then received the Efficiency Decoration in January 1961.

Janet William McGregor Smith was born in 1919 and saw service during the Second World War in the Territorial Army with the Auxiliary Transport Service, and then later as a Warrant Officer 2nd Class (No.W/13791) with the Women’s Royal Army Corps was awarded the Efficiency Medal on 30th September 1949. Smith was then commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant (No.415916) into the same unit on 22nd February 1951, and then promoted to Lieutenant on the same date.
She was promoted to Captain on 2nd June 1953, and having been awarded the Efficiency Decoration in the London Gazette for 17th January 1961, then retired in the rank of Captain on 1st January 1966. She died in London on 30th November 2009.
