All officers being annotated with their names, with veterans of the Perak and Nile Expeditions, along with the Zulu War. The other side has another gelatine print, this showing the the Warrant Officers and Sergeants of the 2nd Battalion during 1882.

Identified officers include:
Lieutenant Colonel William Frederick Kerr, commanding the battalion, he was a veteran of the Perak Expedition in the Malay Peninsula during 1875 to 1876.
Major Robert Albert Hickson.
Major Julius Batt Backhouse, later a battalion commander and then a Lieutenant General, he was a veteran of the Zulu War in South Africa, having been present in the actions at Inyezane and Gigindhlova. He went on to command the 2nd Battalion during the Boer War of 1899 to 1902.
