William Samuel Mundy, joined the Royal Air Force in the mid 1930’s. He was captured during the fall of Malaya on 20 March 1942, and is noted as having been a member of the City of Canterbury draft, and held at Moluccas (Ambon) camp, Java, Singapore, until his liberation on 2 September 1945.
Remarkably, throughout his captivity he managed to hold on to his pocket autograph book which now contains the signatures of several fellow PoWs, R. C. R. Godfrey, 48 L.A.A.Regt. R.A. Chaplain - signed at Boei Gladock P.O.W. Camp (Canon R. C. R. Godfrey’s papers covering his time as a prisoner of war are held at the Imperial War Museum, London) and all the doctors and nurses who attended to him in hospital in Java, 1942. This a rare and interesting item with huge research potential.
