A Far East Prisoner of War Efficiency Medal grouping awarded to Lieutenant R. Smith, Royal Army Ordnance Corps who would be commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Royal Army Ordnance Corps on 11th July 1941 and would be present at the Fall of Singapore being taken prisoner of war on 15th February 1942. Surviving the war he would be repatriated from a camp in Thailand on 2nd September 1945 upon the Japanese surrender.

Ronald Smith was born on 20th May 1908 and was a native of Warrington, Lancashire when he joined the King’s Royal Rifle Corps. He would be commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Royal Army Ordnance Corps on 11th July 1941.
He would subsequently be captured at the Fall of Singapore on 15th February 1942 and would spend the war as a Japanese Prisoner of War in Thailand being released on 2nd September 1945.
