A Crimean War siege of Sebastopol and Second Opium War capture of the Taku Forts group awarded to Private Ezekiel Parsons, 1st Battalion, 3rd Regiment of Foot who had seen service during the Crimean War at the siege of Sebastopol and later in action at the Third Battle of the Taku Forts on 21st August 1860, he led a chequered career being imprisoned several times for absence and disobeying orders on multiple occasions.

Ezekiel Parsons initially saw service with the 29th (Worcestershire) Regiment of Foot from 3rd November 1854 until 25th February 1855 when he transferred to the 3rd Regiment of Foot, he would see service in the Crimean War during the siege of Sebastopol which lasted from September 1854 through to September 1855. He would later go on see service in the Second Opium War of 1856 to 1860 when serving with the 1st Battalion, being present in action at the Third Battle of the Taku Forts on 21st August 1860.
Throughout the early 1860s Parsons led a somewhat chequered career spending a significant amount of time in confinement for absence and disobeying orders on multiple occasions. He would be discharged in June 1877 having picked up an illness at Cawnpore in 1876 as a result of his service and the climate.
