A Boer War Orange Free State, Transvaal and Laing’s Nek and later Special Constabulary Long Service pair awarded to Private J. Clench, 1st Volunteer Company, 2nd Battalion, Middlesex Regiment, later Special Constable, United Kingdom Special Constabulary who saw service in South Africa during the Boer War where he took part in the operations in Orange Free State and Transvaal as well as in the action at Laing’s Nek from 2nd to 9th June 1900. He would later serve as a Special Constable with the Untied Kingdom Special Constabulary.

John Clench was born in Lambeth, London and giving his trade as a French Polisher attested at Camden Town on 29th January 1900, he would go on to see service as a Private (No. 7139) in the 1st Volunteer Company, 2nd Battalion, Middlesex Regiment in South Africa during the Boer War where he would take part in the operations in Orange Free State and Transvaal as well as in the action at Laing’s Nek from 2nd to 9th June 1900.
He would be discharged on 15th June 1901 and would later serve as a Special Constable with the United Kingdom Special Constabulary.
